IKA Organ Donor Week
I wanted to bring everyone’s attention some very important charity events that are taking place within Park West over the coming weeks and would like to encourage everyone to get involved and help where you can. The first event “Organ Donor Week” is organised through our good friends at the Irish Kidney Association based here in Park West Business Campus. The campaign, which is organised by the Irish Kidney Association and supported by the Irish Donor Network, will take place from 31st March until 7th April, 2012. This will be pushed throughout the country by the Irish Kidney Association so support for this is vital. The IKA are delighted to announce that RTE’s Joe Duffy in again pledging his support to this initiative and this is his second year to fully support this event.
Joe Duffy’s radio show, ‘Liveline’, generated a great public in September 2009 when Joe interviewed his personal friend Emmy award screenwriter Frank Deasy on the subject just days before his death from liver cancer. Unfortunately Frank passed whilst undergoing his liver transplant but his remarkable legacy generated an unprecedented surge in organ donor cards with over 15,000 requests in just one week! Since then, Joe has continued to highlight the plight of people with organ failure and the 2012 campaign will feature Joe in radio ads and in posters to encouraging everyone to carry an organ donor card.
Currently there are over 650 people in Ireland waiting for lifesaving transplants including hearts, lungs, liver, kidney and pancreas.
Organ Donor Awareness Week also serves as a fund raising exercise for the Irish Kidney Association and throughout the week you will see Irish Kidney Association volunteers selling ‘forget me not flower’ emblems (the symbol of transplantation) on brooches, car ribbons and pens. All proceeds go to the IKA support programme for dialysis patients and those fortunate enough to have received transplant already.
If you want to become an organ donor cards are available from your GP or by phoning the Irish Kidney Association on 1890 543639 or Freetext the word DONOR to 50050. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Crumlin Children’s Hospital
The second event, and one that is close to almost everyone’s heart, is support Crumlin Children’s Hospital. The management team here at Park West in conjunction with CMRF (Our Lady’s hospital for sick Children) organises an annual 10K run in aid of Crumlin Children’s hospital. This summer will be the 3rd annual 10k run in Park West & Grand Canal and takes place on Sunday June 17th.
The main aim of this special event is to raise enough money that they can ‘HELP FIX CRUMLIN HOSPITAL’ and support the development of the badly needed Cardiac and Cancer Units.
Park West Management and CMRF (Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children) would love anybody and everybody to help them raise money for this worthwhile charity so get your runners on and join the team for a run jog or walk. There will be plenty of Family fun on the day with entertainment on The Plaza in the Park West Business Campus. It is a great event and one that is enjoyed by all age groups so this is definitely a good way of getting all the family active!
An early bird registration special of €15 is available for the month of April, €20 thereafter and €25 on the day so deciding to do this early will be more cost effective. There is nothing to think about really just get those runners out of the closet and get ready to run!!!!!
Please find below registration & race website and again support would be greatly appreciated

Why not celebrate this Easter with an overnight stay and tickets to the fantastic “Cirque Du Soleil”
I was fortunate enough to see a Cirque du Soleil show in America whilst on holiday a couple of years ago and I have to say I was absolutely fascinated and thoroughly entertained from start to finish. Cirque du Soleil has announced that it is going to debut its critically-acclaimed production “Alegria” in The O2 Dublin for the very first time in April 2012. This show has graced many a stage throughout Europe and North America and I am sure that it will be very well received by Dublin’s theatregoers.
Alegria is a Spanish word meaning “joy, happiness and jubilation.” Featuring a cast of 55 artists performing breathtaking acrobatics and musicians from seventeen countries, this classic Cirque du Soleil production has wowed 10 million people since it first premiered in 1994 in Montreal and has received international acclaim.. I can personally say that this show is definitely well worth seeing!
The spectacular 2½ hour production showcases amazing acrobatics which will delight and awe audiences of all ages. Fans hold their breath as the performers poise and skill is put to the test with dramatic acrobatics and daring aerialists fly to catchers swinging more than 40 feet above the stage.
Cirque du Soleil’s return to The O2, Dublin this spring is set to be one of the entertainment highlights of the year.
So don’t be disappointed and book your tickets now for this incredible show. As usual Aspect Hotel Park West will be offering fantastic Dublin hotel deals and special offers throughout the month of April so why not take in a show and an overnight stay to spoil yourself this Easter.
Happy Easter everyone…

The 2012 Six Nations Championship will see three home matches for Ireland, played in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. The annual rugby union championship is contested by Ireland, England, France, Wales, Scotland and Italy. Ireland’s campaign did not get off to a great start on the 5th of February when we suffered a really disappointing minimal loss 21 – 23 to Wales at the Aviva Stadium… Let’s hope the boys in green can put that behind them and come out fighting on the 25th of February.
Ireland vs. Italy
Ireland has won the last 16 encounters with Italy, but Italy is not a team to be written off. Ireland’s narrow win over Italy in the Stadio Flaminio in the last 6 Nations is a stark reminder that Italian passion and flair for the game make them a formidable opponent that is capable of almost anything.
The remaining rugby fixtures are as follows:
- Ireland vs. France – 4th March to be played in France
- Ireland vs. Scotland – 10th March to be played at home
- Ireland vs. England – 17th March to be played in England – This final game to be played on St. Patrick’s Day is set to be very exciting and will have us all in the patriotic spirit to celebrate one of Ireland’s favourite holidays…

Alas the time has come to say goodbye to one of our longest serving employees Mr. Frank Curran who has officially retired last Friday the 30th of September 2011. Frank first joined PREM Group in 2003, working in many different locations including Tulfarris and the Quality Hotel eventually joining the opening team at Aspect Hotel Park West back in September 2006. Frank held the position of Duty Manager at the hotel and really enjoyed the interaction with our guests. Frank is always good humoured and enjoys a joke which made him extremely popular with our guests as well as our staff. It has been absolutely lovely to watch our regular customers wishing Frank well for his retirement over the past number of weeks, all saying that they will miss his charm, wit and good humour!
To celebrate the start of his retirement Frank will be going on a month long holiday to Thailand and Australia…. Well done Frank and well deserved….
On behalf of myself and all of the staff at the hotel we would like to take this opportunity to wish Frank all the very best for his retirement with many years of relaxation and days off to come!!!!!!!
Our Neighbours at the Tallaght Stadium “Shamrock Rovers” must be getting very excited for the upcoming match against Tottenham Hotspur on the 29th of September at White Hart Lane. They must first face Russian side Rubin Kazin at the Tallaght Stadium on the 15th of September kick-off at 6pm. I am sure this will be no problem for the boys in green and a great warm up for the main event with Spurs on the 29th of September.
Shamrock Rovers proved to be the better side in their win over Partizan Belgrade to become the first ever Irish team to progress to the group stage of a European Tournament. Shamrock Rovers were drawn to Group A which consisted of Tottenham Hotspurs, Shamrock Rovers, Rubin Kazin (Russia) & Paok (Greek). Shamrock Rovers in partnership with the FAI and South Dublin County Council had a battle on their hands to secure the Tallaght Stadium as the host venue for the Europa League Group Matches but was victorious in their quest. As all games in the group will be played at home and also away Totenham Hotspurs will be coming to the Tallaght Stadium to play on the 15th of December 2011, kick off at 6pm. Aspect Hotel Park West have rooms available and both Spurs and Shamrock Rovers fans are welcome. Fantastic rates available for all Tallaght Stadium Matches…
For the first time since 1948 Dublin are in an All-Ireland Hurling semi! Admittedly its down to luck (and Limericks shameful efforts at Semple Stadium in Thurles the other weekend) but we could be in for one hell of a 2011 Hurling championship semi-final this year!
All-Ireland champions Tipperary will play Dublin on 14th August in Croke Park. Even though Dublin is primed for the battle, it is wildly believed that Tipp will put an end to Dublin exceptionally brilliant season. No matter what happens in the August 14th showdown, the Sky Blues have a real battle on their hands and hopefully will continue to the final Aspect Hotel Park West would be delighted to welcome any fans from Tipp that will be attending this eventful match, we offer great rates and our complimentary city centre shuttle bus will be sure to get you to the match on time!!!!!!
Does anyone have a prediction for the final? Who will be crowned the Hurling Champions for 2011? I have spoken to several of our guests who firmly believe that it will be a Kilkenny and Tipp final with Tipp coming out on top but either way I am sure it will be a very exciting few weeks in the run up to the final!
Since the opening of Irelands first theme park last autumn, just 30 minutes drive the road from the Aspect Hotel Park West, I’ve been hearing rave reviews about it from colleagues and guest so I figured it would be a good day out for me and my wife and my little girl Amy. Last weekend I decided to take them over to see what it was like and It was fantastic!
We brought Amy’s friend as well and they never stopped running around and enjoying themselves. I never once heard in the day that they were bored (which is a rarity) because there was just so much for them to do. And the fact that the weather was crisp also helped.
When we arrived at Tayto Park we were surprised to find it was free parking, which is not too common these days. When we got inside we immediately went to the Pet-ayto Corner at the kids request. There we saw geese, rabbits, bison, chickens, buffalo and many more animals. We then went to the pow-wow playground where the kids found some new friends and we got to sit down for a few minutes. Afterwards we went for a cup of tea in the Teahouse in The Tree House where we could take a few moments for the kids to decide where they wanted to go next. The Teahouse in the Tree House is a great place to hang out and get a birds eye view of Tayto land.
After visiting the willow maze, The Kilbrew Graveyard and the Tayto factory where we saw how the nations favourite crisps are made and got told all the secrets to the process we decided to call it a day. The kids had tired themselves out from a day of running around and we enjoyed the pleasant views and the walks. When we were leaving we also got a free packet of Tayto which kept us munching in the car! Overall it was a great day out and it was extremely convenient to the city. We will definitely be going back soon!
